"Explore the non-destructive replica testing technique for in situ metallographic examinations"

In Situ Metallographic Examination

Discover how replica testing enables metallographic examinations without the need for destructive removal of equipment.

Replica investigation creates a print of the material’s microstructure on a prepared surface, preserving the integrity of the material. This technique is particularly suitable for monitoring creep-induced structural changes.

Preparation Process & Laboratory Analysis of Replica Testing

Coating or paint layers are removed (over a surface of about 10 x 10 cm.), and the surface is ground and polished to a mirror finish. Etching reveals the microstructure before creating a replica (a negative) using acetate foil and acetone.

The replica print is studied in the laboratory for detailed examination and the results are reported.
