Control method remaining life underground tank

TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium has developed a control method to determine the quality and remaining life of underground tank, as stated in the VLAREM legislation for storage of flammable and hazardous liquids in underground containers. This method has been accepted by the Environment Department responsible for the environmental permit and included in the list of approved control methods.

The control method is based on an analysis of the corrosion rate of the different media in contact with the tank

  • Product side (inside tank): evaluation sludge/water phase and product corrosion.
  • Soil side (outside): estimation based on soil corrosivity, coating quality (via flow pressure test) and cathodic protection.
  • Possibly double wall area with leak detection fluid.

Based on this analysis and all the relevant historical data,  remaining life of both the inner wall and outer wall is calculated. These calculations and analyses are supported by technical standards and protocol.

TÜV AUSTRIA can perform this assessment for recognized VLAREM inspectors and inspection companies as well as directly for end customers.

Controlemethode restlevensduur

TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium heeft een controlemethode ontwikkeld om de kwaliteit en de resterende minimale levensduur van ondergrondse houders te bepalen, zoals vermeld in de VLAREM wetgeving voor opslag van brandbare en gevaarlijke vloeistoffen in ondergrondse houders. Deze methode is aanvaard door de afdeling Milieu, bevoegd voor de omgevingsvergunning en opgenomen in de lijst van erkende controlemethodes.

De controlemethode is gebaseerd op een analyse van de corrosiesnelheid van de verschillende media in contact met de tank

  • Productzijde (binnenkant tank): evaluatie slib-/waterfase en productcorrosie.
  • Bodemzijde (buitenkant): inschatting op basis van bodemcorrosiviteit, coatingkwaliteit (via stroomopdrukproef) en kathodische bescherming.
  • Eventueel tussenruimte met lekdetectievloeistof.

Op de basis van deze analyse en alle relevante historische data wordt de restlevensduur van zowel de binnenwand en buitenmantel berekend. Deze berekeningen en analyses worden onderbouwd met technische normen en protocol.
